Melissa Halverson went to college in California where she was: a Resident Advisor at CSUS, co-chaired the discipline committee and student mentor program 2000-2001, volunteered with Student Peer Counseling, and worked on the Union Program Board (managed $100,000 annual campus activities budget). She graduated from Northern Arizona University with a BS degree in Biology and a minor in Women’s Studies. After graduation, she taught anti-bias programs to elementary school children with Campfire, a Valley of the Sun United Way group. Melissa has also worked in Arizona as a youth dance instructor, a program director of performing arts with the Arizona Cactus Pine Girl Scouts, and for Associated Students for Women’s Issues. She is currently with Salt River Project.
Melissa spends her off hours volunteering for many local groups when she is not working with Phoenix Pride, including the Human & Equal Rights Organizers (HERO), 1n10, and Soulforce.
She currently serves as the Political Advocacy Task Force Co-Chair 2009-2010. |
